I have taken a step back and leaving it to my fat sisters like Jes Baker of the Militant Baker and author Virgie Tovar to continue the work that they are qualified and more equipped for. The work I did on my retired blog, The Nearsighted Owl, is still of great importance to me though. I also realize it was important to thousands of other fat woman out there. I like to think I can speak to their experiences and feelings honestly, with my own, and maybe even full of a little piss and vinegar. I was able to inspire a wider audience when I was featured on Yahoo, Cosmo and other news outlets. I am not ready to leave everyone empty handed. This book is an archive of my blog writing and How To Be a Fat Bitch eCourse with some things being edited for clarity and even a few new nuggets from moi thrown in. These words carry power. They deserve a place in this world. Why fat bitch? A fat bitch is confident, outspoken and proud of who she is. So why use such a word?!? If you feel it is too harsh or insulting, let me tell you why I use it. I’m from Portland, Oregon and with the presence of Bitch Magazine, the word bitch has an alternative meaning for me and not meant to be derogatory. It is a feminist word. I proudly consider myself an outspoken killjoy feminist and a fat bitch. Personally, I don’t identify with words like goddess, curvy, chubby, etc. I prefer to own the words that are used to insult me. Bitch is thrown out there when a woman is opinionated and doesn’t take any shit. Well, thank you. If that is what a bitch is, then I am happy to be one. In Tina Fey’s words, “Bitches get stuff done.” Reclaiming words is powerful and I like the straightforwardness of it all. I am a fat bitch and if you can’t handle it, like you need to sugarcoat or minimize it, then get the fuck out. See, I already feel like I am in a fat girl gang and ready to stand strong and tough.Find the book here: http://www.lulu.com/shop/rachele-cate...
